Raising Rain

Four college roommates,  Bebe, Toni, Mare and Jude, joined forces in the radical 60's and 70's to protest the war and champion the rights of women.  But they had no way of knowing the impact their choices would have on future generations, especially on Jude's daughter whom they all helped to raise in their Victorian off-campus apartment.  Now a 30-something single woman, Rain wants to trade her career for a baby and her significant other has taken off for greener pastures.  As one who has come to know God intimately, Bebe feels especially responsible because of a choice she made and a secret she kept.  Is it too late to make things right for the young woman whom she considers a daughter?

Trivia of the 60's & 70's

Pantyhose

Pantyhose first became widely used between 1963 and 1967 with the 'rise' of the miniskirt. No more girdles, garter belts or roll-ons (ask your grandmother about those).  Julie Newmar, the first Cat Woman, actress and inventor, patented her own sleek, snug-fitting pantyhose.  It took time to overcome the sticker shock of pantyhose, since having a run in one leg meant tossing the whole pair.  Thrifty women saved the pantyhose with runs, cut off the ruined legs, and wore two pair, one over the other.  This defeated the purpose of not wearing a girdle.

  The Beatles

The Beatles first appeared on the Ed Sullivan show on February 9, 1964.  The studio had 50,000 requests for tickets, but the theater only held 703.  Over 73 million people watched, making it the most watched television show in history.  They received $10,000 plus expenses for 3 consecutive shows.

Mood Rings

Mood rings are hollow quartz or glass shells with thermotropic liquid crystals which respond to changes in temperature by twisting, which changes their molecular structure.   This twisting alters the wavelengths of light, or 'color'.  They are blue or green at the average person's normal temperature.  When a person is excited or stressed, the blood flow is directed away from the fingers and the stone changes to these 'revealing' colors:
Violet blue:  happy
Blue: calm, relaxed
Green: normal
Yellow or amber: tense, excited
Brown or gray: nervous

What song is your blast to the past and who was your favorite group?

My blast to the past is "To Sir With Love" by Lulu.  It was the first album I actually saved up my allowance to buy.

Three Dog Night's hit "One"  and "Happy Together" by the Turtles remind me of humid summer days in Indiana. - Don, CA

"It's Still Rock and Roll to Me" by Billy Joel - Christy, OK

For me it's "Best of My Love" by the Eagles - Sue, TN

If I had to pick one, it would probably be "Dancing Queen" by Abba. - Diana, WA

"Last Train to Clarksville" by the Monkees reminds me of hanging out at the pool in the summer when we were eighth-graders - Anita, FL

"Smoke on the Water"  Senior prom  - Lori, IN

My favorite song from that decade is "Only In Your Heart" by America - Megan, CA
